How Neon Light Tubes Work
Cars are more than merely modes of transportation. Just like dresses and jewelleries we wear, they are items to show off. Dazzling paint jobs, awesome accessories, booming sound systems, powerful engines-all these give a car its unique character. One of the best ways to show off an automobile is to give it a great visual appeal by installing neon light tubes under chassis and inside its passenger compartment.
Neon tubes are glass cylinders that contain neon or other inert gasses at low temperature. They are normally made for store signs. Because each sign is different, they are usually handmade and labour intensive, with glass craftsmen bending the tube this way and that through the use of heat. The colour of the tubes depends on the glass colour used and the gas that fills it up.
The interior of the glass cylinder may be coated with a thin phosphorescent powder to enhance the brightness. Then the tube is filled with a non-reactive gas. As mentioned, the type of gas determines the colour of the glow. For example, neon is used for yellow colours, argon with mercury for blue, helium for bright orange, and xenon for purple. When a high voltage is applied to the tube, the gas gives off a bright glow.
Neon tubes are very popular not just because they have a wide range of colour but also because they have a very long lifetime. The glass tube's coating eventually depletes the gas, but this could take years or even decades before the gas could no longer light up. Thus, they are perfect long-lasting accessories for your customised car. Try mixing one or more neon lights to have a truly awesome illumination spectacle for your vehicle.
