Replacing a Garage Door Opener
Handy as they are, there will come a time when your existing garage door opener will stop working. However, replacing them need not be a tedious task since the track is already in place. Read on to learn about how to put in a new one properly.
Begin by removing the old, worn-out opener. Remember that you need to install the new mechanism in the centre of the door. Utilise a tape measure to find this. Mark the spot with a vertical line.
Note the highest point of your garage cover as you raise it. Mark the spot before attaching a support piece of 2x6 lumber to the studs at that exact location.
Place the front end of the rail where you drew your vertical line. There should already be a reinforced panel for this very purpose. Put the rails together according to the manufacturer's directions. Once this is done, put the garage doors down.
Raise the motor assembly to a point that puts the rail in a horizontal position. Do this manually to ensure that the rails are out of the way. When you are satisfied with the placement, fasten the motor to the ceiling joists with the brackets that come with the door opener kit.
Proceed by moving the carriage to the closed door position then attach the drawbar to the door. Adjust the chain so that the latter opens and closes properly. Finally, connect any new remote control switches and motion detectors that come with your new opener.
